Brahmastra Box Office: Karan Johar and Dharma Productions Mark Their Biggest Opening Ever; Ayan Mukerji’s Film Surpasses Sooryavanshi and Agneepath: Bollywood Box Office

It’s time to give credit where it’s due. Post-pandemic, there are two Bollywood movies that have opened in a big way – brahmastra and Sooryavanshi. What is truly remarkable is that both films have Karan Johar as producer with his Dharma Productions backing them. Although both films have other multiple partners also involved, brahmastra in particular, Karan has supported Ayan Mukherji and his vision to the fullest for a full decade, and the results are there to be seen with the film proving to be Dharma’s greatest ever and by a huge margin.
Last year, when cinemas finally opened after the pandemic, it was Sooryavanshi that brought people to theaters. A Diwali release with Akshay Kumar as lead man and Rohit Shetty as director, the film not only continued to open extremely well (despite the restrictions in place) but also brushed past the 200 crore mark. During his life. Now, in 2023, when it seemed Bollywood was totally at a standstill, with theatrical activity at an all-time low, Karan Johar and his Dharma Productions have once again been the savior with brahmastra put on a record frenzy.
Meanwhile, Karan’s dream project Agneepath remains in the top 3 list despite the fact that it has been over 10 years since the movie was released. On the other hand, the next best is Kalank and ironically it was a flop (just like Shaandaar which is also in the Top 10). Apart from these films, there has been a series of successes scored by the filmmaker with his own director. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil also find a place in the list.
Here is the list of the top 10 openers for Dharma Productions:
brahmastra – Rs. 37 million
Sooryavanshi – Rs. 26.29 crore
Agneepath – Rs. 23,000,000,000
Kalank – Rs. 21.60 crore
Kesari – Rs. 21.06 crore
Simba – Rs. 20.72 crore
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – Rs. 19.45 crore
Good Newwz – Rs. 17.56 crore
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Rs. 13.30 crore
Shaandaar – Rs. 13.10 crore
Rest assured, when its Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani will be released next year, it would be at least in the Top-3, if not in the first place.
