​Locarno pays tribute to Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions | New

Jason Blum will receive the Premio Raimondo Rezzonico prize for best independent producer from the Locarno Film Festival during its 75th edition, from August 3 to 13 in Switzerland.

The American producer and founder of Blumhouse Productions, who has worked on more than 75 productions, is best known for his long-running horror franchises. paranormal activity, Insidious and The purge.

His most notable credits include Oscar winner Damien Chazelle WhiplashJordan Peele get out, M.Night Shyamalan’s Spilled and Spike’s Lee BlacKkKlansman which won the UBS Public Prize at Locarno in 2018.

Blum will be in town to receive the Premio Raimondo Rezzonico in the Piazza Grande on August 6, with get out and Spilled tribute screening. The producer will also attend a panel discussion about his work on August 7 at the festival.

“[Blum] succeeded in establishing a sustainable micro-budget production model, reviving genre cinema,” said Locarno Artistic Director Giona A. Nazzaro. “He used the genre to chronicle the various political crises plaguing the United States, overcoming gender stereotypes and launching acting careers through his constant promotion of new talent.”

Previous Producer Award winners include Gale Anne Hurd, Jeremy Thomas, Christine Vachon, Menahem Golan, Mike Medavoy, Margaret Ménégoz, David Linde, Ted Hope and Komplizen co-founders Maren Ade, Jonas Dornbach and Janine Jackowski.
